Mission & philosophy

The Department of Dance at the Blake School of the Arts offers students the unique opportunity for rigorous training in dance, combined with a strong, comprehensive academic program.

Our mission, as magnet dance program is to provide students an all-encompassing education and prepare them for the future not only as artists, but contributing, successful and responsible citizens.

Blake High School strives to nurture, without exception, the values of individual accomplishment and independence. Each student will receive personal attention to his or her needs.  The dance program offers students a sense of community as they build friendships that will contribute to their lives at Blake and for their years following graduation.

The Department of Dance is fully committed to its role as a college preparatory school and professional dance programs, informing students of the variety of opportunities available to them for future training in colleges, universities and conservatories. The teachers strive to graduate young artists who can work creatively and independently.  While encouraging the individuality, Blake dance faculty places high value on group responsibility, loyalty and dedication.

Students who complete this program will gain an in-depth education in dance as an art form through technique, history, kinesiology, choreography, production, master classes and performance. They will also carry with them the necessary tools to prepare them for a successful future in any field they choose to pursue.
